Let's see what I have to say about it...
The words barely make it out of me "I....I need to touch that controller...can I touch that controller?". I was shocked at the answer "Yes.." as the Game Stop employee slowly pulls out a knife and begins to cut open the controller from its packaging. "I...I love you"..are the only words I can muster. He places the controller in my hand, and I just stare into his eyes as I start to make sense of what is happening.
The reality of the moment hits me, and I start to feel and grab the controller from all angles, pressing hard, then soft, clicking buttons, rubbing my fingers everywhere. My eyes open wide as I start to laugh like a mad scientist. Ok I am getting carried away here, lets get down to the shit:
The regular buttons all feel the same, but more responsive. The triggers on L2 and R2 pull in with ease and confidence. The touch screen is made of a matte finish, and feels similar to a laptop track pad, it in itself is also a button. It fees great to gesture over it and press down.
The whole controller is great and it makes me so excited to play on my PS4, everything is awesome from the matte rubber grips at the bottom of the controller, to the movement of the analog sticks, to the way the whole thing just "feels" better in my hands..the one thing that I didn't actually care for, was the choice of a glossy finish around the D-pad and the action buttons on the right. Glossy attracts fingerprints, and I definitely left some of mine on this controller. Besides this slight step backward, the rest of the thing is astounding to play on. There is even a light on the top that will light up to indicate which player you are (each controller will have a different colored light).
I felt a DualShock 3 controller after for comparison, and it made me feel like an asshole. The DualShock 3 is now completely irrelevant, it just feels wrong. I will have to suffer with it for now....soon my precious...soon.
As I put the controller back down, and made my way to the door, I stopped to turn around, wave, and blow just one silent kiss to the Game Stop employee who made this all possible. I knew my life was forever changed. PS4, you will be a great system. I'm sure I will love you for many years to come...
